Requirements

In order to be admitted for treatment, a person must be at least 18 years of age and in need of substance abuse treatment. Prospective clients who are not in need of detoxification must also present the results of a recent TB skin test and a rapid plasma regain. A chest x-ray may also be required if someone has been exposed to TB. If tests present a barrier to treatment, St. Jude's nursing staff will help clients obtain the necessary medical documents.

Process

Potential clients call St. Jude's Admissions/Intake Department to schedule an appointment. The length of time between phone call to actual intake date is usually one to two days. The Admissions/Intake Department utilizes the Addiction Severity Index to assess and identify the scope of an individual's addiction and related issues, such as medical, employment, legal, family, social, and psychological concerns. After the assessment, the Admissions/Intake staff determine the level of care that will best address the client's needs. During the one-hour intake process, each client receives an orientation and information regarding program rules and financial obligations. The client is then informed of his/her admission status and given a date for intake.
